How to save your life

Salvation is one of those things that has been overrated as some will put it.  One time a very dear friend of mine told me that if hell was real, then the solution is simple just carry with you an extinguisher. And all this are some of the speculations that a majority of us have when it comes to the reality of eternity. The truth is Gods judgment is coming and there is only one way to save yourself from his wrath and this is how.

Jesus said “whoever seeks to preserve his life will lose it but whoever loses his life will keep it ”(Luke 17:33) this was interesting for me as well because at first I thought it’s about saving oneself but then it hit me hard that’s not it.  Trying to save the life we work so hard to build is the reason many of us will miss the kingdom, harsh I know but the scripture puts it out clear don’t try to save your life. Do the opposite accept to lose it for the sake of Christ and you will save it.

What we choose is of great importance as one of my mentors will always remind me “life is the total sum of the choices we make” Gods kingdom is at hand and our choices matter especially if our gratifications are for the flesh and not the spirit of God. The separation of the wheat and the tears is real and we shall all count for our sins the big question then will be where will you fall? It doesn’t even respect the family ties or the people you know. Wealth will not save you then as corruption will have no power at that point. Oooh I will have to add this being in ministry or a pastor will not save you then as God cannot be mocked what a man plants that is what he will reap.

The solution then is simple yet so deep in terms of the working that goes to it, REPENT and believe in the gospel. This is going beyond just saying that you are sorry for something but a complete turnaround particularly in behavior and attitude. The bible tells us that “for the kind of sorrow God wants us to experience leads us away from sin and results in salvation. There’s no regret for that kind of sorrow but worldly sorrow results in spiritual death.” 2corinthians 7:10 this is the kind of true repentance that we should seek.

Let me highlight a few things on the same;

·       Having godly sorrow for our sin, this is key and not the same as being scared of the punishment so you just try to say sorry to avoid calamity. It should be sincere and from the heart not just emotions and fear. Proverbs 23:26

·       Confession of our sins, this is hard for many as they think of the shame and status or reputation and will try to avoid this aspect of confession. 1john 1:9 gives us the assurance that when we do confess he is faithful and just to forgive us of our sins and purify us from our unrighteousness as well as healing comes as we see in James 5:16

·       Turning from the sinful ways is a daily and continuous decision that we make as believers. There is this teaching that once you have been regenerated then there is no way that you can fall to sin. Many say since it is Christ who works in me, then I cannot do that thing which is evil. but friends watch out the schemes of the evil one as well as the deceitfulness of our own heart and practice living that godly life on a daily basis of which God helps us in every way.

·       Holiness is my last emphasis and a reminder that without it no one will see God Hebrews 12:14-15. 

So I do hope that this will bring to light some of the things that you need to do so as to save your life. Salvation isn’t something that we shall say maybe or maybe not, it’s a command from God if we ever want to inherit the kingdom. Don’t lean on to your own understanding but I plead with you in all your ways acknowledge Him and God will direct your path.
