Backsliding Does it really happen?

Many of us wish to be devoted Christians and grow in grace, but for some reason, they end up  right back to where they started yet had made strides in becoming more like Christ. We do run well for a season like the Galatians and then turn aside after false teachers (Gal 1:6).some of us profess loudly while   our feelings are warm, as Peter did and then in the hour of trial deny the lord ( Matthew 26:74-75). We do see many of us who end up losing our first love as the Ephesians did (Rev 2:4) and this is but just among some of the examples of how we tend to go back even after some encounter with God's power. It is indeed a bad thing to be a backslider, of all the bad things that can befall a man this is one I will call the worst. This is because it leaves one with “a wounded conscience, a mind sick of itself, a memory full of self-reproach, a heart pierced through with the lord’s arrow, a spirit is broken with a load of inward accusation.” [1] This can be a very troubling t...

Jesus Model of Discipleship

J esus started His ministry when he heard that John the Baptist had been arrested and it all started with the preaching of repentance for the kingdom of God was at hand. This was in Capernaum near the Sea of Galilee where he saw two brothers Peter and Andrew who were fishermen. The invitation to the transforming life in Christ comes to them in a simple but complex analogy when he said to them, “follow me and I will make you fishers of men.” [1]  They did leave their nets and followed him so did two other brothers James and John who were fishermen as well and eventually, we know of the twelve men who today we call them apostles ( Luke 6:13;  )  the calling of these men could be likened to the calling that is given to the world, “come to me all who are weary and heavy-laden and I will give you rest” that invites men to respond to Christ in faith and give them a new birth ). This is the foundation on which discipleship is built; a process that ...

DO I PURSUE GOD?

T o have found God and still pursue Him is indeed a paradox of love, the lack of this is the reason we are in this low estate as believers. We have reached a place where we no longer have the desire for God but a state of complacency has set in. this is a deadly foe of all spiritual growth as he reminds us in revelation 3:20 that "He stands at the door and knocks, if we hear his voice and open the door, I will come in and eat with that person and they with me." This is a continuous process meaning the desire never ends but the sad news is that for many of us he really waits for too long, so long in vain. T his generation is complex with simple things, and in the process we end up having more of programs, methods, organizations and a world of nervous activities which occupy time and attention but can never satisfy the longing of the heart. The shallow of our inner experience, the hollow of our worship, which has pushed us to imitate the world is the evidence of our methodolo...

SAVE YOUR LIFE

How to save your life Salvation is one of those things that has been overrated as some will put it.   One time a very dear friend of mine told me that if hell was real, then the solution is simple just carry with you an extinguisher. And all this are some of the speculations that a majority of us have when it comes to the reality of eternity. The truth is Gods judgment is coming and there is only one way to save yourself from his wrath and this is how. Jesus said “whoever seeks to preserve his life will lose it but whoever loses his life will keep it ”(Luke 17:33) this was interesting for me as well because at first I thought it’s about saving oneself but then it hit me hard that’s not it.   Trying to save the life we work so hard to build is the reason many of us will miss the kingdom, harsh I know but the scripture puts it out clear don’t try to save your life. Do the opposite accept to lose it for the sake of Christ and you will save it. What we choose is of great i...

AUTHENTIC CHRISTIANITY

Authentic Christianity Well, guys! there is something that I wanted to address as we continue with our studies. This past month a friend was sharing and then these words come out. “When it comes to people of the other faiths it’s not my place to judge them but just share Christ and love them which in return God will use to transform them.”  well put especially if all you want is to keep your peace but from a close look something is totally wrong and I want to share on this. First of all, Christianity is the true way to God and this is done through Christ Jesus. Ephesians 2:8-9 “for by grace you have been saved through faith and this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God. Not a result of works so that no one may boast.” And also to be clear I am not referring to the phony Christians who are not really Christians but a people who just like to feed upon consecration services and dedication meetings.   Using the right terms and behaves in the proper orthodoxy but the re...

Can I lose my salvation?

A s we continue with our journey of growing in salvation, the answers to this question have proven to come in two depending on one's inclinations.    For I start I will give my answer as NO and YES and this is where I build my response from. T he Calvinists have held a belief that they call the doctrine of eternal security or the perseverance of the saints.   I will not bore you with the historic battles that there have been in line with this topic but one that stands out is what scripture says. Interestingly both answers are found in scripture, for instance, Hebrews 6:4-6, 2 nd peter 2:20-22 support the answer for saying yes and Philippians 1:6 among many others support the answer for no.   And this for some reason may present a problem on where the truth lies. Some may even think that the bible contradicts itself, certainly not, but what exactly is the answer to our question? T here is a reality of life and that is we all have to endure in our walk of fait...

Am Saved... Now what?

We all have had to ask this after our lives reached that point where we wanted to change. this doesn't need to have a nasty story of salvation or a sweet church person but we all get to this point and if not soon I hope you will. and we do ask for the next step after having received this gift of salvation. there are some of the essentials as I like to call them that are tools that the lord can use to help us grow in this gift of salvation and  this includes the following; Reading the bible , and there are thousands of tools when it comes to this so whichever one that enables you to spend time reading God's word am okay with it. be it the scripture memory or inductive bible study or bible tracks audio bibles bottom line is spending enough time reading the bible. there is more to this but for today this will do. Join a church and not just as a member of that church but more importantly a participant in the church activities for the purposes of accountability and growth. I k...
